Another joyous occasion for students and teachers at L.R Schmidt Primary school, Genadendal as they received a fully equipped and connected digital lab as part of Cell C’s commitment to roll out digital connectivity within schools in partnership with the Department of Basic Education.
Cell C once again renovated one of the classrooms turning it into an inspiring digital lab, kitted out with devices such as laptops, screens, a projector, printer, server, power points for network cabinets and more. This included new functional desks, chairs, flooring and a refreshed paint job. The digital lab has also been connected with Cell C sponsored data, giving learners access to the internet, and in addition, the teachers and pupils will be trained on the use of the hardware and software.
Lethiwe Hlatshwayo, Executive Head: Corporate Affairs and Communications at Cell C says, It was so heartwarming to see the joy and appreciation from the teachers and learners and we are proud to be part of the journey to create an environment where our young people are included in the digital revolution. We are so pleased to have the opportunity to bridge the ICT gap one community at a time".
For sustainable impact in communities, partnerships are a key component in removing barriers to accessing the digital world and bridging what is a deep digital divide, hence the partnership with the Department of Basic Education on the roll-out of digital labs.
The project started in 2021, and so far, we have successfully handed over fully equipped and connected Cell C Digital Labs in Mpumalanga, Limpopo and the Eastern Cape, now in the Western Cape. The roll-out will be in all the nine provinces in the country, concludes Hlatshwayo.
Through our Digital Lab handovers, Cell C encourages youth to #RedefineTheFuture.
Providing access to the digital world is core to Cell C’s ambition to #ChangeYourWorld.
