Tips to make the most of your money in 2023

You may be feeling cash-strapped right now, especially after December or the Janu-worry blues. Access to money should not be purely reliant on your next payday or loans. Here are some ideas on how you can alleviate financial pressure and make the most of your money in 2023.

Get rid of white elephants in your kitchen

Take a tour of your cupboard for appliances or anything else not valuable that might be gathering dust, like that slow cooker you have only used twice since 2015, or the bread maker that has not seen a scoop of flour. Use apps like Facebook Marketplace or Gumtree to put things up for sale. Always meet the buyer someone public and make sure you get the cash or eft before handing over the goods.

Bedroom clean up

Selling unused items of clothing is not only good for your pocket but for the environment too. It will take you less than an afternoon to set up a social media profile for the clothing or household décor that you no longer want to keep. Take pictures of each item and use the caption section to list the condition, size, and price. Be sure to include details about shipping and use Hashtags. Remember to ask your friends to follow or share the account

Budget for food

Why not give big grocery stores a miss and consider picking up your fresh produce from a local fruit and vegetable vendor? Not only will you be supporting small businesses, but you will also find goods at a fraction of the cost of what they retail for at large retail stores. A double win!

Embrace the outdoors

Try to not spend your last buck on pricey indoor activities e.g. movies. The outdoors are free. Make your way to a local park and make a homemade lunch, read a book while listening to the waves crash on the beach, or better yet, go for a walk or hike. These activities can do wonders for your mental health by decreasing stress levels.

It’s also a good idea to perform an audit of your expenses once in a while and see where your money truly goes. What money-saving tips are you adopting this year?
