ADOPT-A-SCHOOL ACT OF KINDNESS ON NELSON MANDELA DAY

Wednesday, 18 July 2018

Wednesday, July 18, marks the cententary of the birth of the late Nelson Mandela with activities scheduled around South Africa.

Cell C,  through its on-going Acts of Kindness campaign, has been invited by the Adopt-a-School Foundation to participate in the Back to School for a Day volunteer activities taking place on Nelson Mandela Day at Tshilidzi Primary School in Chiawelo, Soweto.

The Adopt-a-School Foundation has called on corporates to come together and support a variety of initiatives taking place at the school for 67 minutes on Wednesday, July 18. Companies donate R7 500 per team towards covering the costs of the initiative they choose to take part in and may bring up to 10 volunteers per group to participate in the activity.

Two teams of 10 volunteers from Cell C head office will be taking part – one will paint a Grade classroom while the other will be assisting with a touch rugby clinic.

Cell C has also done an internal drive where employees have donated sanitary products, rugby and soccer balls, vegetable seeds and non-perishable food items which will be given to the school.

The Adopt-a-School Foundation, established in 2002, strives to address the inequalities and inadequacies in disadvantaged and rural schools in order to ensure positive learning experiences which will lead to greater opportunities for South Africa’s youth.

Says Suzette van der Merwe, Managing Executive Corporate Social Investment at Cell C: "Cell C are delighted to be able to honour Madiba’s legacy. Children and education were close to his heart so it made perfect sense to take part in this wonderful Adopt-a-School project."

NOTES FOR EDITORS

CELL C ACTS OF KINDNESS

As a proudly South African company, Cell C ascribes to the philosophy of compassion and kindness as the catalyst for real change. Every month, Cell C is spreading smiles by encouraging acts of kindness. An act of kindness is a gesture of goodwill towards someone or something. It doesn’t have to cost anything or much; what’s important is that it’s an act of expressing genuine care for another person or living being. It’s contagious and an opportunity for people to work together, create positive energy and inspire hope.
