Durban – Cell C, in collaboration with Gift of the Givers, is pleased to announce the handover of the newly renovated facilities at Seatides Combined School, which were severely impacted by the flooding that devastated KwaZulu-Natal in June 2024. The flooding, which caused widespread damage across the region, left essential infrastructure in ruins and claimed several lives.
The tornado that swept through Tongaat, Westbrook, and Seatides destroyed over 35 classrooms at Seatides Combined School. In response, Cell C and Gift of the Givers joined forces to rebuild and renovate the school's facilities, ensuring that learners have access to safe and functional educational spaces.
Farhad Suleman, Managing Executive of Enterprise Sales at Cell C, said: “Children are the future of our country, and it is crucial that we provide them with safe, well-equipped learning environments where they can thrive and achieve their dreams. The renovation includes a newly refurbished school block to replace those destroyed in the floods. This project aims to create a conducive learning environment for students, ensuring they can continue their education without disruption,” Suleman continued.
Dr. Imtiaz Sooliman, founder of Gift of the Givers, commented, “Today marks a significant milestone for the learners, teachers, and the entire community of Seatides. Schools are the heart of our communities, and through this renovation, we are not only rebuilding a school but investing in the future of our nation. This collaboration with Cell C is a shining example of ubuntu in action.”
This initiative is part of Cell C’s ongoing commitment to youth development and its focus on providing sustainable solutions that will benefit South Africa’s future generations.
Suleman further emphasised the importance of corporate involvement in rebuilding efforts across KwaZulu-Natal: “Our mission is to serve the communities we are a part of. Being able to contribute to the restoration of a school, a place where the foundation of our children’s futures is laid, brings us great pride and joy.”
The Seatides Combined School renovation is a continuation of Cell C and Gift of the Givers’ collaborative efforts, which have also led to the rehabilitation and renovation of four clinics in the Eastern Cape.
