Following a devastating fire that gutted the PurrPaws for Life animal shelter in Vanderbijlpark on Wednesday night, Cell C has tapped into its Kindness Fund to help the shelter to rebuild.
“PurrPaws has spent years offering shelter to almost 1000 homeless dogs and cats. This fire will without doubt have left the shelter owners and workers absolutely distraught,” says Cell C Managing Executive: Corporate Social Investment, Suzette van der Merwe.
Sadly, most of the animal food was kept in a house that was burned to the ground, which has left owner Lindie van Rooyen devastated and scrambling to find ways to protect the animals.
The shelter has called for any assistance that the community can provide and Cell C is stepping in to assist with a donation of food and other related items that will help the PurrPaws team care for their animals until they recover from this terrible experience.
“We have seen many community members step in to assist with fostering the animals, but we know that food, water and other goods will be needed to care for these animals. The Cell C team will make the delivery in the next few days so that the shelter can focus on getting back on its feet without the added stress of not being able to provide the necessary goods for the animals,” says van der Merwe.
