Sebokeng, March 19: It was a tragedy that caught the attention of the community media when a Sebokeng family lost two members after their house in Zone 6 burned down last month.

Martha Mofokeng (63) and Malesedi Moeletsi (3) were rushed to hospital with three others after the fire but later succumbed to their injuries.

Caroline Moeletsi (44) says that she does not know what caused the blaze that quickly spread, destroying all their belongings: “The fire started in the bedroom where my mother had been sleeping with some of her grandchildren. We are heartbroken.”

The family - with the assistance of SANCO Chairperson for ward 40, Mpho Nkitsing - asked for the support of the community in helping them rebuild their home and assist with materials for roofing, painting and furniture.

As part of its Acts of Kindness campaign, Cell C Northern region has reached out to the family and made a monetary donation which will go towards the roofing for the family’s house and as well as a voucher towards food for the family.

Says Cell C’s Naresh Perumal who was at the handover: “This is a heartbreaking tragedy and we hope that this donation goes some way towards helping the Moeletsi family rebuild not only their house but their lives too."
