CELL C'S RANDOM ACT OF KINDNESS FOR DISABLED MDANTSANE RESIDENT

Monday, 20 March 2017

Cell C has come to the aid of an elderly Mdantsane resident as part of its ongoing Random Acts of Kindness campaign.

Seventy two-year-old Beauty Qamata – who lost both her legs three years ago because of diabetes – is trapped in her shack in the Bacawa squatter camp. Because of her immobility, she spends her days alone in a room with no toilet and no running water.

Qamata lives with her grandson Chumani, who sleeps in the shack’s second room. Before he goes to school in the morning, and on weekends, Chumani goes to the public tap to fetch water for his grandmother.

Qamata says her greatest fear is that if the shack catches fire, she will be trapped inside and die because she can’t run or walk.

When Cell C read about Gogo Qamata’s plight in the media, they decided to help her become more mobile with the help of a wheelchair. The company also donated vouchers towards household goods and basic needs.
