Cell C has helped a six-year-old Bloemfontein girl hear again thanks to its ongoing Random Acts of Kindness initiative.
When Cell C employees in Bloemfontein were visiting shelters in their region, they heard about young Gerde who was born with profound sensory-neural hearing loss in both ears. When she was two-years-old she received a cochlear implant at the Universitas Academic Hospital.
However, the cochlear implant was giving trouble and her family could not afford the cost of repairs. This electronic medical device replaces the function of the damaged inner ear and helps provide sound signals to the brain. Time without the hearing device is detrimental to Gerde’s development.
This week Cell C covered the costs to repair the device, allowing the youngster to hear again.
