Thursday,
Customers on all networks are being cautioned to avoid falling victim to a scam that surfaced again in the last few days called Wangiri Fraud.
In this scam, customers are being left missed calls by international numbers (for example, but not limited to numbers beginning +3826). Customers that return those calls are calling back to premium rated international numbers and being charged incredibly high costs per minute. Customers are being held on the line with various tactics, such as automated messages, to ensure they are charged as much as possible.
Customers should refrain from answering or replying to any unknown international numbers and are encouraged to report these numbers to Cell C on 140.
